This coffee is from Brazil in the Campos das Vertentes region. The owner of the farm, Joao Marcos, is part of AFASA (Associação dos Agricultores Familiares de Santo Antônio do Amparo) which consists of a group of small lot owners in rural Brazil. Atlas noticed the quality of coffee coming from AFASA and worked with them in improvements to sell their coffee for the price it was worth. Many were struggling with exporting their coffee for a small profit even though they do all their work by hand. Since then, their coffee has held up in competition, and they are able to continue production at a sustainable rate. There are 62 members in AFASA, with an average farm size of 5 hectares, or 12 acres.
